Enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountainous Hachimantai area with this round-trip tour by electric mountain bike

Tohoku Tourism Promotion Organization

Hachimantai in Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region is an area of tremendous scenic beauty. One of the best ways to enjoy the land’s incredible scenery is via an electric mountain bike tour, available starting in June and remarkable for the vibrant, fresh greenery, through the end of October, when the trees are full of spectacular autumn foliage.

Under the supervision of a PMBI-certified (Canadian International Licensing) MTB guide, enjoy a ride through vast meadows and the Yakehashiri Lava Flow, designated as a Special Natural Monument. You will also visit the Panorama Line with its spectacular view; dine on a lunch made with local ingredients at Lamia Mamma, a hidden Italian restaurant in the forest; and cycle along the gravel at the foot of Mt. Iwate.

In addition to the performance offered by the mountain bike, the high-performance electric assist feature makes riding uphill easy. The appeal of an electric mountain bike (e-MTB) is that it expands your range of activity. Even those who are not confident in their physical strength can ride comfortably thanks to the reliable assist feature. Please note, however, that due to the size of the rental bikes, this program is limited to participants who are at least 150 centimeters tall.

How to get there

From Tokyo Station, take the Tohoku Shinkansen to Morioka Station (about 2 hours and 10 minutes). From there, take the Iwate Ginga Railway/Hanawa Line to Tairadate Station (about 40 minutes). A 15-minute drive from Tairadate Station (free shuttle service also available) will take you to the clubhouse (meeting spot).
