Japan's first station bar that connects people through sake

Hama Bar is a sake bar and shop right on the platform at Hizenhama Station in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture. Kashima boasts five sake breweries thanks to the clear water from the Taradake mountain range and the high-quality rice of the region. The bar opened in January 2021 as a place where travelers and local residents can interact while enjoying local sake.

At Hama Bar, you can taste more than 15 kinds of sake from the five breweries, all at affordable prices. You can also learn about the history of Kashima and its breweries from the friendly staff, as well as purchase souvenirs. Directly connected to the station platform, Hama Bar is a unique spot where you can relax and watch trains through the window as you sample local sake at its best.

You can also enjoy strolling along nearby Sakagura Dori (Brewery Street) and visiting the sake breweries there. It’s only a five-minute walk from the station.

A special “Kashima Sake Brewery Tourism” event is held every year on a weekend in late March. For two days, local breweries open their warehouses to visitors so they can taste freshly made sake. Here, you can find sake and snacks lovingly made by the brewers and residents of Kashima.
