A unique and traditional boat ride to try in Sado
The Tarai-bune boats are one of Sado's most famous sights. Originally made from washtubs, the boats are said to have been invented in 1868. After a lot of improvements and effort, they have changed their shape over the years to their current form. A female rower will operate the boat for you, so you can enjoy it without worrying about flipping over or drifting off. You can also try rowing for yourself, and if you steer the boat well you can receive a Tarai-bune navigator license.
When to go: All year
