The Birthplace of Yosakoi
Kochi Prefecture is known as the origin of the Yosakoi Festival, a traditional festival celebrated throughout Japan.
The History of Yosakoi
Yosakoi started in the 1950s as a way to reinvigorate citizens still recovering from the post-war economic depression. Yosakoi parades consist of dance teams in traditional Yosakoi outfits led by a Jikatasha, a music truck decorated with fancy adornments.
