Landscapes of Two Overlapping Volcanic Belts
The Onidake Volcano Group extends to the eastern part of Fukue Island, the largest island of the Goto archipelago of Nagasaki Prefecture. The Onidake volcano group consists of five volcanoes: Onidake, Hinodake, Shirodake, Midake, and Usudake. The volcanic terrain was formed by an eruption that occurred 3 to 5 million years ago, overlapping with the mortar volcano formed by the second eruption about 50,000 years ago.
