Yachting Near the Summer Home of the Imperial Family
Hayama is a small resort town about 50 km outside of Tokyo. Its pleasant climate and well-appointed marina make it popular with high-end vacationers. Hayama is also the birthplace of Japanese yachting. Yachts fill Hayama Marina, some of which offer tours. Marina tours are affordable, and there are also reasonably priced shops and restaurants in the area.
Cruise around Sagami Bay
Boat tours of nearby Sagami Bay can be reserved for 3,000 yen. On these scenic voyages, you can see several islands, bays, and beaches. There are many photogenic locations, such as lighthouses and traditional red torii gates, on several of the islands.
Lunch at the Marina
The boat cruise includes a sushi lunch, but if there's still room for more, the marina restaurants serve up local shiitake mushrooms and Hayama beef.
How to get there
Head to Shin-Zushi station on the Keikyu Line. From the south exit, take bus no. 2 bound for Hayama Isshiki. Get off at Hayama Marina stop.
