How to Get There

Meriken Park is an easy 10-minute walk south of Motomachi Station on the JR Kobe line.

Home to a vast collection of attractions

Including the 108-meter-tall Kobe Port Tower , the historic Kobe Maritime Museum and the "Be Kobe" monument, Meriken Park also features a collection of modern art installations, making a day trip to the park worth adding to the itinerary if you're in the area.

Bouncing back

The effects of the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995 saw the park face incredible devastation. However, like the rest of the city, the park was soon restored and normal activities resumed. A short section of the park's damaged waterfront, the Port of Kobe Earthquake Memorial Park, has been left untouched since the event as a solemn reminder of what Kobe went through during the tremendously destructive earthquake.
