Takegawara Onsen 竹瓦温泉

Built in 1879, Takegawara Onsen is one of the oldest and most famous of Beppu's hot springs.

You can get to the onsen by train.

You can reach Beppu Station via limited express train from Hakata, Oita, Miyazaki, and Hitoyoshi as well as neighboring areas. The onsen is a ten-minute walk from Beppu Station .

Choose an onsen soak or a sand bath. During the latter, attendants will envelop your yukata-clad body in heaps of hot sand. The baths can help with digestive problems, stiffness, bruises and sprains, neuralgia, and sensitivity to cold.

Amenities such as body soap, towels, and hair dryers are available for a small fee.

The onsen is closed on the third Wednesday of the month unless that day is a holiday, in which case it will be closed the following day.
