Aso-Kuju National Park

Minamiaso Visitor Center

A base for exploring the volcanic landscape, grasslands, hot springs, and wild flowers of the Aso region

Inside the Minamiaso Visitor Center, you will find exhibits on the volcanic, grassland, and hot spring landscapes in the Aso area. There is a 3D topographical map of surrounding peaks. Some say that the outline of these peaks resembles a camel. You can view photo exhibitions and a video showing the highlights of Aso in each of the four seasons.

From the visitor center, you can walk to nearby Aso-Yasoen Garden, a microcosm of year-round seasonal flowers, wild birds, insects, and small animals. The garden is separated into themed zones such as grasslands, wild birds, insects and forests. Walking courses through the garden can take from 20 to 90 minutes to complete. The visitor center also offers guided treks to nearby Rakudayama, or "Camel Mountain," and guided tours exploring the formation of volcanic craters.

The facility holds crafts workshops such as painting and craft-making, such as making wreaths with natural materials such as twigs and pinecones. These programs may charge a small fee to cover the cost of materials.
