Hiking information and exhibits about the Urabandai Highland
Urabandai Visitor Center provides information on the lake-dotted Urabandai Highland. The staff can give you guidance about nearby trails and the Goshikinuma Ponds, one of Urabandai's most scenic spots.
The center features exhibits based on the national park's ecosystems. The waterfront section introduces aquatic plants and animals that live in the three-hundred-plus lakes and ponds of Urabandai. The forest section has exhibits on how the region's forests have transformed, and the plants and animals you can find there. The plains section shows the evolution of the terrain and wildlife, with a diorama showing how the land changed in the aftermath of the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai.
Watch the center's twenty-minute video showcasing scenes of Urabandai Highland through the four seasons to get a sense of Bandai-Asahi National Park's natural beauty.
The Urabandai Visitor Center hosts events and craft workshops. There is a craft corner where you can paint pictures of local animals or create a pin badge to take home with you. (The pin badge activity requires a small fee to cover the cost of materials.) Other seasonal events include guided outdoor excursions. You can also rent hiking equipment such as long-boots, bear bells, snowshoes and binoculars.
