Lake Tanuki Nature School

Learn about nature through educational games and activities in the foothills of Mount Fuji

The Lake Tanuki Nature School is located south of Lake Tanuki in the Fuji Five lakes area of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. It was established with children in mind but has a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed by nature enthusiasts of all ages. The complex consists of a two-floor Nature Experience House where children can play during rainy weather, an outdoor area with wooden playground equipment, a lecture hall, an outdoor stage, a climbing wall and wooden boardwalks to explore.

The nature school hosts a variety of educational events and programs tailored to different age groups. Free programs include thirty-minute explorations into a life-sized diorama of a lava cave, nature videos in the theater area, animal identification games and hunts for unusual insects. Paid programs include guided nature walks, climbing on the climbing wall, forest aromatherapy workshops and a variety of craft-making experiences.

In addition to programs, Lake Tanuki Nature School offers overnight accommodation in wooden cottages. Each cottage accommodates up to five people and features a kitchen, bedroom, washroom, and a free parking space for one vehicle. The price for an overnight stay ranges from 19,400 yen to 23,760 yen, depending on the season.
