Explore Mount Hakusan and its flora and fauna

The Ichinose Visitor Center showcases the natural beauty of the Ichinose area and provides information about trails for hikers. During summer, private car access to Mount Hakusan's trailheads is restricted, so the visitor center serves as the departure point for shuttle buses going to the various trailheads.

The first floor of the visitor center has a lecture hall and an exhibit that introduces the important ecological role of the buna, a type of beech tree that is one of Mount Hakusan's most iconic plant species. Take a look at the center's cross-section of a huge genuine beech tree so that you can spot one around the foot of the mountain.

The second floor of the visitor center is the main exhibit area, with a large map on the floor displaying the topography of the entire Hakusan National Park. There are panels with up-to-date information on trail conditions, rules that should be followed inside the park, and the plants and animals that you can see on a hike. You can look through a magnifying lens at organisms and plants that have been found in the Ichinose area.

The visitor center organizes weekend walks guided by volunteers. You can apply for a guided walk at the reception corner on the left side of the hall on the second floor.
