Experience and learn about the mountains through a guided tour
The Hidaka Mountains were formed by the collision of tectonic plates, starting about 13 million years ago. Signs of the ice ages that followed can also be seen. Hidakasanmyaku-Erimo-Tokachi National Park has a lot of distinctive mountains. Mount Apoi, for example, while not being particularly tall, is still home to many endemic species, including alpine plants. Why would that be? To find out, you could join a guided trek to observe the area’s unique topography, geological features, flora and fauna, and more local wonders.
