Enjoy breathtaking views as you snowshoe through old-growth forests
Ancient, old-growth forests cover the mountains of Shiga Kogen, located at the heart of Joshin’etsukogen National Park. Rising more than 2,000 meters, these mountains are a sanctuary for the Japanese macaque and the Japanese serow, a goat-antelope endemic to the region and an emblem of Japan.
Explore areas that are usually off-limits due to heavy snowfall on this guide-accompanied tour. As you snowshoe past rime-covered Japanese hemlock, larches, and white birches, their boughs laden with snow, appreciate the quiet beauty of winter in this remote and pristine wilderness.
