Botanical discoveries at 82 Mori-no-Manabiya (Forest Learning Center)
Learn everything you need to know about the flora and fauna in the Togakushi Forest Botanical Garden at the family-friendly 82 Mori-no-Manabiya (Forest Learning Center). A wheelchair-accessible walking path provides access from the forest learning center through a section of the botanical garden.
Ramble through the area in spring and you will see colorful dogtooth violets and Asian skunk cabbage, and hear the call of the orange-throated Narcissus flycatcher. Early summer is your chance to spot forest-green tree frogs as they lay their sticky eggs in tree branches. Fall brings flame-colored foliage and the sound of birds pecking at nuts. In the winter, you can explore the area around the Togakushi Forest Botanical Garden on cross-country skis.
Be sure to check out the multimedia theater at 82 Mori-no-Manabiya, with three video screens showing scenes of the changing forest through the seasons. The learning center offers observation tours every Sunday from May to October to help you discover more about the area’s seasonal sights.
