Displays and interactive exhibits showcase the spectacular Tottori Sand Dunes
The Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center is the ideal place to learn more about the Tottori Sand Dunes' captivating landscape. These sprawling dunes are Japan's most famous, stretching 16 kilometers along the western edge of San'inkaigan National Park.
Various displays and interactive exhibits inside the Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center explain the geology and topography of the Tottori Sand Dunes. Through the center's exhibits, you will learn about the sand dunes' drought-tolerant plants and animals and their fascinating history. The center shows a short video about the interesting wave-like patterns sculpted by winds onto the dunes in its theater.
Stop at the center's information desk to ask any questions about the area you may have—there is usually an English-speaking staff member on-site. The visitor center has a library with a seating area and a soft play area for children, a nursing room, and free maps and brochures. Adjacent to the center is a spacious outdoor seating area equipped with foot showers to wash off sand, as well as vending machines.
The facility is wheelchair-accessible, and you can rent two types of wheelchairs for use inside the visitor center and out on the dunes.
