Towada-Hachimantai National Park

Towada Visitor Center

Learn about Lake Towada and the area's distinctive geography

Stop by the Towada Visitor Center, located on the shore of Lake Towada, to learn more about Towada-Hachimantai National Park and the Towada area's beautiful natural environment. The center provides information about Towada’s unique landscapes, including Lake Towada, Oirase Stream, and the Hakkoda Mountains, through panel photographs and scale models.

Watch the multi-slide exhibit “The Four Seasons of Lake Towada,” for an introduction to the area's flora and fauna throughout the year, seasonal changes in the natural landscape, and the relationship between people and nature. At the center's observation lounge, you can see incredible views of Lake Towada, the largest crater lake on Japan's main island of Honshu.

Families are also very welcome at the center—visitors of all ages will enjoy the scale model of the Towada Caldera. The children's corner and the adjacent craft corner keep children entertained with activities and provide a space to make crafts from natural objects they have found in the park.
