How to Get There
Yambaru National Park has picturesque coastal views, forested hiking trails that lead to waterfalls and camping grounds, and Okinawa’s largest mangrove forest. The park sits on the northern end of Okinawa Island. Although it’s possible to visit the park using public transportation, infrequent service makes renting a car a better option.
From Tokyo
Fly from Haneda Airport to Naha Airport on Okinawa Island in around three hours. Once you’ve arrived, it’s most convenient to rent a car from a company around the airport and then drive north on the Okinawa Expressway and, later, Route 58 (2 hours 30 minutes to Cape Hedo in the north). If using public transportation, take bus No. 111 or No. 120 from the airport to Nago Bus Terminal (1 hr 45 min), then transfer to bus No. 67 bound for Hentona Bus Terminal (55 min).
Getting Around
Due to minimal public transportation in Yambaru National Park, a rental car is the most convenient option for seeing the park's many highlights. If using public transport, bus No. 67 links Nago Bus Terminal with Hentona Bus Terminal in the park. The bus stops at Okuma Beach Iriguchi—a 25-minute walk from the trailhead leading to Hiji Waterfall. From Hentona, a municipal bus operated by Kunigami Village runs infrequently along the west coast of the park to Cape Hedo at the very north of the island.
