Paddle around Kabushima Island, the breeding grounds of black-tailed gulls
Each year from March to early August, over 30,000 black-tailed gulls make Kabushima Island in Hachinohe, Aomori, their home. They come to the island to breed and raise their young, and they have been considered a sacred animal by the local population for centuries.
Sea kayaking and paddleboarding around Kabushima allows you to observe these black-tailed gulls without disturbing their habitat. On this tour, professional instructors teach you kayaking and SUP basics before leading you through the calm waters of Kabushima, at the northern end of Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park. Combine this and other experiences with a walk along the Michinoku Coastal Trail, which runs through the park.
