Dogashima is accessible by bus.
Buses to Dogashima run from Shuzenji Station (90 minutes) and Izukyu-Shimoda Station (60 minutes).
Quick Facts
Dogashima is the site of a tombolo—a piece of land that only becomes visible at low tide
The area has unusual volcanic rock formations called magmatic dikes
Walk the Causeway
The western coast of the Izu Peninsula has many hidden wonders for you to explore and miles of delightful hiking trails. At low tide, the Sanshiro Islands become accessible on foot—be sure you check the tide schedule lest you be trapped there overnight.
Magma Formations
Sightseeing boat tours are popular as the shoreline was created by a volcanic eruption and subsequent erosion producing pockets and caves which can be explored from the water. Further up the coast at Futo, strange rock formations caused by solidifying magma can be found at the end of a hiking trail.
Nature and Onsen
You can visit a picturesque orchid garden and the Peer Dome Tenso, a dome-shaped theatre where images of nature are displayed. There are also plenty of onsen resorts to choose from if you fancy a relaxing overnight stay.
