Koiwai Farm 小岩井農場

Koiwai Farm is an eco-friendly farm that seeks to minimize its environmental footprint while producing delicious dairy products, hosting seasonal events, and educating the public.

Koiwai Farm can be accessed from Morioka Station.

Take the Tohoku Shinkansen to Morioka and change trains to the JR Tazawako Line to Koiwai Station. From Koiwai Station, it is a 10-minute taxi ride. You can also take a bus from Morioka Station bound for Koiwai Farm (40 minutes).

From activities for the whole family to guided farm tours, a variety of dining options and craft workshops, there's always something going on at Koiwai Farm. Events vary depending on the time of year.

Several big events occur throughout the year. The Yuki Matsuri, or Snow Festival, is the biggest of its kind in the Tohoku region. The igloos at the festival serve as restaurants where visitors can barbecue meat. There are many other seasonal events, such as the Light-up and Snow Experience and firefly watching.

Koiwai Farm was originally a dairy farm, and the ice cream is delicious. They also have produce including milk, cheese and yogurt from the farm on sale.

Over 100 years ago, a single cherry tree was planted in the field where the cattle graze. It was intended to provide the cattle with shade. Nowadays, in late April and early May, you can see the cherry tree in full bloom with a snow-capped Mt. Iwate in the background.

If you visit in the winter, you can ski the hills and bathe in the hot springs nearby. You can also visit nearby Morioka Handi-Works Square .
