Kurayoshi 倉吉

Kurayoshi is a friendly and historic city located at the center of Tottori Prefecture . Visit the historic merchant quarters and classic white-walled warehouses and see the former seat of power for the Hoki region.

Kurayoshi is accessible by train.

The Super Hakuto Limited Express train connects Kurayoshi with Osaka in just over three hours. The slightly slower but cheaper highway buses connect Kurayoshi and Misasa Onsen to Osaka and Hiroshima in around three hours and 20 minutes and four hours, respectively.

From Tottori, take the JR San-in Line bound for Kurayoshi Station. The trip takes about an hour.

Mt. Utsubuki is the symbol of the city and was the site of a castle during medieval times. The preserved merchant quarters of the old castle town, Utsubuki Tamagawa, have changed little with time and are a must-see during your trip to Kurayoshi. The area contains Shirakabe Warehouses , the white-walled kura storehouses from which the city gets its name, and the red-tiled wooden buildings of Akagawara. Its waterways are home to photogenic carp and are crisscrossed with small stone bridges. The uncrowded area is a wonderful place for a stroll around a townscape that has changed little with time.

A visit to Utsubuki Park , considered one of the country's top urban parks, is a great and easy way to add some nature to your trip to Kurayoshi. The park features an attractive pond and is partly covered in a rich forest that contains a broad diversity of trees and plants. In spring, it is the foremost spot to enjoy cherry blossom viewing in the entire region.

The Kurayoshi plain, in which Kurayoshi City is located, is famous for growing Nijisseiki pears. The Tottori Nijisseiki Pear Museum, where you can learn about and sample the pears, is a good place to spend some time on a rainy day.
