Kyoto State Guest House 京都迎賓館

Experience the craftsmanship of living national treasures and master craftsmen in an atmosphere of Japanese hospitality. The architecture and gardens of Kyoto State Guest House have been designed to harmonise with the historical landscape.

Located adjacent to Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kyoto State Guest House is easily accessible by public transport from within the city.

A seven-minute walk from the Furitsu Idai Byoin-mae bus stop (buses leave from Kyoto Station and Kyoto Kawaramachi Station), or a 15-minute walk from Imadegawa Station on the Karasuma subway line.

A taxi from Kyoto Station takes about 20 minutes.

Kyoto State Guest House officially opened in 2005 and welcomes guests from all over the world in its beautiful Japanese-style reception spaces. It was built to deepen the understanding of Japan's history and culture and help build stronger relationships with other nations. While the building is made from steel-reinforced concrete, the interior is richly decorated in wood to infuse it with a sense of Japanese culture.

Traditional craftsmanship is widely applied to the building and furnishing. Ikebana flower arrangements are displayed whenever guests are being welcomed.

Kyoto State Guest House is open to the public when not in use for receiving guests. Advance reservation through Kyoto State Guest House website is recommended but not required. You can sign in at the reception on the same day, but priority is given to those with a reservation.

There are two types of visits which vary depending on the public opening period: a self-guided tour and a guided tour. A guided tour in English by a Kyoto City-certified interpreter guide is available once a day at 12:00 p.m. and lasts one hour.
